What it is
The FOMC is the Fed committee that sets the federal funds rate. It meets for two days, and the statement comes out on the second day. Half an hour later the Fed chair holds a press conference. Four meetings a year also bring the Summary of Economic Projections, the chart of where each member expects rates to go.
Why crypto traders watch it
Rates set the price of money, and crypto trades like other risk assets around them. The move often comes in two waves: one at the statement, and a second during the press conference when the chair answers questions. We would not trust the first spike. The second wave reverses it often enough to catch out anyone who chased it.
Release time in India
The September 2026 statement came out at 2:00 p.m. ET, and we list the next ones at the same time. In India that is 11:30 p.m. IST for the 28 October decision, and 12:30 a.m. IST on 10 December for the 9 December decision.
If the US government shuts down
The Fed pays for itself, so a US government shutdown does not stop FOMC meetings. It can still delay the CPI and jobs data the committee looks at.

The statement after the meeting of 27 to 28 October is due on Wed, 28 Oct 2026, 2:00 p.m. ET, which is Wed, 28 Oct 2026, 11:30 p.m. IST. The date is from the Federal Reserve calendar, and 2:00 p.m. ET is when the September statement came out.
What time is the FOMC decision in India?
At 2:00 p.m. ET the statement lands at 11:30 p.m. IST in October. After the US clocks change it lands at 12:30 a.m. IST the next day, so the 9 December decision is early on 10 December in India.
Which FOMC meetings have projections?
In 2026 the March, June, September and December meetings come with the Summary of Economic Projections, as marked on the Fed calendar.
Does a government shutdown stop the Fed?
No. The Fed funds itself, so meetings go ahead. A shutdown can delay the BLS and BEA data the committee reads before it decides.
