US jobs report dates

What it is

The Employment Situation report counts how many jobs US employers added in the month, excluding farm work, and gives the unemployment rate and wage growth. BLS publishes it at 8:30 a.m. ET, usually on the first Friday after the month ends.

Why crypto traders watch it

A strong jobs number can mean the Fed keeps rates higher for longer. A weak one raises the odds of cuts. Crypto often moves in the same minute as US stock futures and the dollar. Revisions to earlier months matter too, and they can flip the reading of the headline.

Release time in India

BLS releases the report at 8:30 a.m. ET: 6:00 p.m. IST on 2 October, then 7:00 p.m. IST for the November and December reports.

If the US government shuts down

BLS and BEA stop publishing when US government funding lapses, and their dates move. As of 30 September 2026, federal agencies are funded through 11 December 2026 under H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, signed on 2 September 2026 (White House statement). The October and November releases fall inside that window. The December releases land before it, so a lapse would first hit later data. In the shutdown that began on 1 October 2025, the September 2025 jobs report came out on 20 November instead of early October.
