Bitcoin and gold in the hour after every FOMC decision and CPI release
If you trade bitcoin or gold, you have seen the chart jump at 8:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. New York time. This page lists all 39 FOMC decisions and 57 US CPI releases since January 2022, and what bitcoin did in the hour after each one, and in the first 15 minutes where the candles allow. Gold's move is here for every one of them, from spot gold (XAU/USD). Every row links to the official release and names where its candles came from.
After FOMC decisions
Bitcoin rose in the hour after 2 of the 5 FOMC decisions with Hyperliquid candles (29 April 2026 to 28 October 2026). The middle-sized move, up or down, was 0.34%. Spot gold rose after 18 of all 39.
After CPI releases
Bitcoin rose in the hour after 2 of the 4 CPI releases with Hyperliquid candles (14 July 2026 to 14 October 2026). The middle-sized move, up or down, was 1.06%. Spot gold rose after 32 of all 57.
A count of what happened, not a forecast. The rows marked Binance are worked out when the page opens, and the count above updates with them.
FOMC decisions since January 2022
Statements at 2:00 p.m. ET, from the Federal Reserve's FOMC calendars. Decision: the federal funds target range as the statement sets it. Every meeting here was a scheduled one.
CPI releases since January 2022
Releases at 8:30 a.m. ET, from the BLS CPI release archive. CPI, 12 months: the all items index over the past 12 months, not seasonally adjusted, as each release prints it.
How we measure the move
The move starts at the release minute: 8:30 a.m. ET for CPI and 2:00 p.m. ET for the FOMC statement, both read off each release itself. We take the open of the candle that starts at that minute and the open of the candle that starts 15 or 60 minutes later, and give the percent change between the two.
Bitcoin in the rows marked Hyperliquid comes from its BTC perpetual. Hyperliquid keeps a fixed number of candles of each size, so each row uses the finest size that starts on the release minute and still reaches back to it (1 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, 1 hour). The Data column names it. A 30-minute or 1-hour candle has no open 15 minutes in, so those rows leave bitcoin's 15-minute column empty. These figures were read on 28 October 2026 and do not change.
The rows marked Binance are worked out in your browser when the page opens, from Binance's public 1-minute BTC/USDT candles, with the same rule. If Binance does not answer, Bybit's 1-minute candles are used and the row says so. We do not store those figures. A perpetual and a spot market follow the same price, but their candles are not identical, so a row's source is part of its figure.
Gold, in every row, comes from spot gold (XAU/USD) 1-minute bars, the same bars as the Pravex gold chart, measured with the same rule. Those figures are read once and do not change either.
Two dates are not rows: the FOMC's notation vote of 22 August 2025, released at 10:00 a.m., which updated its longer-run strategy statement and made no rate decision, and October 2025's CPI, for which the BLS archive lists no release.

Questions and answers
Does bitcoin go up or down after an FOMC decision?
Both. In the FOMC rows with Hyperliquid candles on this page, bitcoin rose in the hour after 2 of 5. The older rows, back to January 2022, are worked out in your browser from Binance's public candles when the page opens, and the count at the top updates with them. It is a record of what happened, not a guide to the next decision.
What time does the move on this page start from?
From the release minute itself: 8:30 a.m. ET for CPI and 2:00 p.m. ET for the FOMC statement. Each move runs from the open of the candle that starts at that minute to the open of the candle 15 or 60 minutes later.
Where do the figures come from?
Dates, times, rate decisions and CPI figures come from the Federal Reserve and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and every row links to its release. Gold's moves come from spot gold (XAU/USD) 1-minute bars, the same bars as the Pravex gold chart. Recent bitcoin moves come from Hyperliquid's BTC perpetual, and older ones from Binance's public 1-minute candles, read by your browser.
