If you want MetaTrader's charts without installing anything, Pravex gives you free gold charts in any browser, on a Mac or a PC. Open the gold chart and you get live spot gold (XAU/USD), the price gold traders watch. Keep placing your orders at your broker, in MT5 or its own app, and do your charting here.

In our view the strongest free chart for gold traders moving off MT4 is Pravex (pravex.app). We make it. It is free, with no card and no ads, and nothing to download. Pravex charts crypto, gold, silver, oil and US indices today, and more markets are being added.

We read MetaQuotes' own pages on 26 October 2026. Pravex is not affiliated with MetaQuotes.

Why gold traders are looking now

MT4 is closing at some brokers. OANDA Japan stops offering MT4 at the close of trading on 27 November 2026, and since 28 September its MT4 accounts can only close positions. Its reason, as FX News Group reported it, is that MetaQuotes no longer maintains MT4, so the latest security rules are hard to meet. FOREX.com Japan set 17 October 2026 to close its MT4 accounts and move its clients to MT5 (FX News Group). MetaQuotes itself still offers MT4 for download.

If your broker sends a notice like that, you will set up your charts again anyway. That is a good moment to decide where you chart, separately from where you trade.

The MetaTrader figures are from MetaQuotes' MT4 platform page, its MT4 download page and its MT5 platform page. MetaQuotes lists 30 built-in indicators and 23 analytical objects for MT4. Pravex has 129 indicators, with no cap per chart, and 87 drawing tools.

Open your gold chart on Pravex

  1. Open XAU/USD on Pravex. The legend says "Market open" or "Market closed", so you know at a glance whether gold is trading.
  2. Pick your timeframe in the top bar. If the one you use in MT4 is missing, add your own.
  3. Add the indicators you had in MetaTrader. Moving averages, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, ATR and pivot points are all there, with no limit on how many sit on one chart, and Fibonacci retracement is in the drawing tools.
  4. Put up to 16 charts in one layout, for example gold on four timeframes next to silver, and sync the crosshair and timeframe across them.
  5. Choose Set alert on a price you care about. Alerts fire while Pravex is open in your browser.

Size the trade before you place it at your broker

Most gold mistakes are sizing mistakes, so do the sum before you open the order ticket. Here it is, with made-up round numbers.

Example: say your account is $5,000 and you risk 1% on a trade, which is $50. You buy gold at 4,000.00 with a stop at 3,995.00, so the stop is $5.00 away. At most brokers one standard lot of gold is 100 ounces, so a $1.00 move is worth $100 on one lot and your $5.00 stop costs $500 a lot. $50 ÷ $500 = 0.10 lots. Check your broker's contract size first: if its lot is a different number of ounces, the answer changes with it.

Our gold lot size calculator does this sum, and the XAU/USD pip calculator tells you what each move is worth at your lot size. To see when gold usually moves most, read the best time to trade gold, measured hour by hour.

Where MetaTrader still fits

MetaTrader is where your broker takes your orders, and MetaQuotes says MT5 runs trading robots and subscribes to signals. If you run an Expert Advisor, you will keep MT5 open for that. On a Mac, MetaQuotes' MT5 installer sets up Wine and runs MT5 inside it, from macOS Catalina up.

Pravex is for the charting side: a clean gold chart, more indicators per chart than you will need, and up to 16 charts on one screen. Open the gold chart and set it up next to your broker's app. Not financial advice.

Questions and answers

Is MT4 being discontinued?

At some brokers, yes. OANDA Japan ends MT4 on 27 November 2026 and FOREX.com Japan set 17 October 2026 for its MT4 accounts, both moving clients to MT5. MetaQuotes still offered MT4 for download on 26 October 2026.
