Source: Baker Hughes, which says the North American rig count is released at noon Central Time on the last working day of each week, read 23 October 2026. Noon in Chicago is 1:00 p.m. in New York all year, because both cities change their clocks on the same days. The counts are on rigcount.bakerhughes.com.

Computed by Pravex from Hyperliquid's xyz:CL 15-minute and 1-hour candles (opens), read 28 October 2026. A 1-hour candle has no open 15 minutes in, so those rows leave that column empty. Holiday weeks are left out.

What the rig count is

Baker Hughes, the oilfield services company, counts the drilling rigs at work in North America every week. Its figure for US oil rigs is the one oil traders quote. The counts are Baker Hughes' own; this page gives the time and what WTI did after.

Your time zone

The release follows Chicago's clock, and New York moves its clocks on the same days, so it stays at 1:00 p.m. ET. US clocks go back on Sunday 1 November 2026, so places that do not change their clocks see it an hour later from then: 10:30 p.m. in India for the next one.

Questions and answers

What time is the Baker Hughes rig count released?

At noon Central Time on the last working day of the week, usually Friday. That is 1:00 p.m. New York time. The next one is on Friday 30 October: 10:30 p.m. IST, 17:00 in London and 21:00 in Dubai.

What does the rig count measure?

How many drilling rigs are working in the US and Canada that week, split into oil and gas rigs. It is a slow gauge of future supply: more oil rigs today usually means more oil months from now.

Is the rig count out on holiday weeks?

Yes, on the last working day of that week, which can be earlier than Friday. The holiday weeks left in 2026 are 27 November (Thanksgiving week), 25 December (Christmas Day); check Baker Hughes' site for the day.

Does oil move on the rig count?

Usually only a little. In the last 12 Fridays, WTI on Hyperliquid's xyz:CL market moved between -0.40% and +0.74% in the hour after, measured by Pravex.

More oil dates: the EIA crude oil inventory time, the API crude oil report time, the Baker Hughes rig count time and OPEC+ meeting dates. The economic calendar has US CPI, jobs, PCE and Fed decision times.
