Line drawing: an open laptop on a dotted floor; on its screen three candles climb to the right, each split into small cells two to a row, one cell of the newest candle is blue, and where the next candle will stand is only dotted.

If you want ATAS-style footprint charts without installing anything, Pravex has them free for crypto in your browser. Open a Bitcoin chart, pick Volume footprint in the chart type menu, and each candle splits into price rows of buy and sell volume. Market profile (TPO) sits in the same menu.

In our view the strongest free ATAS alternative for crypto traders is Pravex (pravex.app). We make it. It is free with no card, and it opens in a browser tab. Pravex charts crypto, gold, silver, oil and US indices today, and more markets are being added.

We read ATAS's own pages on 26 October 2026. Pravex is not affiliated with ATAS.

Side by side with the free plan

ATAS has a free plan, Start, and it is a real one: footprint and market profile are both in it. The limits sit elsewhere.

The ATAS column is from its pricing page and download page. Its paid plans start at €24.95 a month for Plus, paid monthly, and reach €89.95 for Ultra. Yearly prices are lower, and there are lifetime licences too. The 14-day trial asks for a credit card. ATAS X lists 8 GB of RAM and 80 GB of disk space in its requirements.

Open a footprint chart on Pravex

  1. Open Bitcoin on Pravex, or any other coin, and set the timeframe you trade.
  2. Open the chart type menu in the top bar and pick Volume footprint. Time price opportunity and Session volume profile are right next to it.
  3. Open Settings and the Price tab. Type switches between Buy and Sell, Delta, Total and Ladder. Display switches between Cluster and Profile. Imbalance ratio sets when a row gets marked. Summary adds each candle's volume and delta.
  4. Add cumulative volume delta (CVD) from the indicators to follow delta from one candle to the next.

New candles fill from live trades. Older footprint candles on Pravex are built from candles, not trades, so they are an estimate of where the volume sat. If the legend says "Footprint from now", Pravex is reading that market from another exchange and the cells fill from new trades only.

Reading an imbalance

An imbalance is a price row where one side traded far more than the other. The Imbalance ratio decides how much more counts.

Example: say you set the Imbalance ratio to 3, and one price row of a 5-minute Bitcoin candle shows 25 BTC of sells and 90 BTC of buys (made-up round numbers). 90 ÷ 25 = 3.6, which is above 3, so the row is marked as a buy imbalance. With 60 BTC of buys the ratio would be 60 ÷ 25 = 2.4, and the row would stay plain. Three buy imbalances stacked on top of each other show buyers taking the offer at three prices in a row, which says more than one row alone.

A single imbalance on a thin coin means little, because one large order can make it. Read them on liquid pairs. They help most on candles you already had a reason to look inside, such as a breakout or a stalled push into a level.

Where ATAS still fits

ATAS is built for futures and stocks as much as crypto. It reaches CME and Eurex futures through providers such as Rithmic or CQG. It also lists more than 400 cluster chart variations. Its paid plans add market replay of real sessions. Its DOM tools let you trade from the price ladder. If you trade futures from a DOM, ATAS is made for that work, and Start costs nothing to try.

If you chart crypto and want order flow in a browser tab, on a Mac or a PC, open Pravex and start with the chart type menu. Our order flow software comparison puts ATAS next to four other apps. Not financial advice.

Questions and answers

Is ATAS free?

Yes, in part. ATAS's Start plan is free with no time limit and no card. It includes footprint and market profile, with 3 indicators per chart and 2 instruments at once. Paid plans started at €24.95 a month on 26 October 2026.

Does ATAS work on Mac?

ATAS X, in beta on 26 October 2026, has a macOS download, while Classic ATAS runs on Windows only. Pravex runs in any browser, Mac included.

What is the best free alternative to ATAS?

For crypto, in our view it is Pravex (pravex.app), which we make. Footprint and market profile are free in the browser, with no cap on indicators per chart.

Can I see a footprint chart online without a download?

Yes. On Pravex, open a crypto chart and pick Volume footprint in the chart type menu. It runs in the browser tab.
