Open a market profile on Pravex

1. Open Bitcoin on Pravex, or any coin, on a 30-minute chart.
2. In the chart type menu, pick Time price opportunity for a market profile, or Session volume profile for volume at each price in each session.
3. To keep plain candles, add a profile study on top instead. There are eight, such as the volume profile or the market profile (TPO).
4. For what happened inside single candles, switch the chart type to Volume footprint.

Older footprint candles on Pravex are built from candles, not trades, so they are an estimate. New candles fill from live trades.

Finding the value area by hand

Every profile marks a value area, the band of prices that holds 70% of the session's volume. Here is how it is worked out.

Example: say a session traded 1,000 BTC across seven price rows, from the top: 40, 90, 160, 260, 220, 150 and 80 BTC (made-up round numbers). The busiest row, 260, is the point of control. The value area holds 70% of 1,000, so 700 BTC. Start at 260 and keep adding the bigger neighbour: 220 below makes 480, then 160 above makes 640, then 150 below makes 790. That passes 700, so the value area runs from the 160 row down to the 150 row, four rows out of seven.

Price that opens outside yesterday's value area and cannot get back in is a common reason profile traders lean one way. It fails often enough that the stop matters more than the read.

When the paid desktop app is worth it

Sierra Chart is a trading platform for futures as much as a charting one. Its Integrated packages (10 to 12) carry its own real-time futures feed and connect to brokers such as Interactive Brokers.
