Session Volume Profile HD Indicator
Session Volume Profile HD draws one volume-by-price histogram per UTC day, like the plain session profile, but you do not choose the row count. The rows follow your zoom, so zooming in on a day shows finer detail.
Spot gold has no exchange volume to profile, so the chart below is Hyperliquid bitcoin.

What it shows
A box for each day with horizontal bars along the price scale, split into up and down volume. A red line marks each day’s point of control (POC), and stronger-shaded rows form the value area. The value area lines are in the Style tab, hidden until you tick them.
How Pravex works it out
- Candles are grouped by UTC date and read as 1-minute candles (30-minute candles on daily and longer charts), coarser if the stretch would need more than 20,000.
- Row height is not an input. Pravex measures how many price units one screen pixel covers, sets the row height to about three pixels of the price scale, and rounds that to a whole number of ticks (at least one). The profile uses a fixed row height with that figure.
- Each small candle’s volume is shared across the rows between its low and high in proportion to the overlap. A candle that closed at or above its open counts as up volume, any other as down volume.
- Each day’s POC is the row with the most total volume. The value area grows out from it, one bigger neighbour at a time, until it holds the chosen share of that day’s volume.
Settings
| Setting | Default | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|
| Session split (not shown) | All | Kept in saved layouts but not shown in the Inputs tab. Pravex splits by UTC day either way, so both choices draw the same profile. |
| Bar style | Up/Down | Pick Up/Down for two-part rows, Total for one bar per row, or Delta for the difference between up and down volume, coloured by the side that won. The bar style does not change the POC or value area; both use total volume. |
| Share in the value area | 70 | How much of each day’s volume, as a percent, the value area has to contain. Lowering it pulls the area in toward the POC; 100 takes in all the rows. The range is 0 to 100. |
| Carry POC line right | off | Draws the POC line on to the right until a later candle trades at that price, or to the edge of the chart if none does. Handy for seeing which old POCs have not been revisited. |
| Carry value area high right | off | The same extension for the value area high line. |
| Carry value area low right | off | The same extension for the value area low line. |
| Histogram width | 70 | How much of each day’s box the longest bar may fill. A drawing setting only. |
| Placement | Left | Whether the bars grow from the left or the right edge of each day’s box. |
How traders read it
Use it the way you would use the plain session profile: compare each day’s POC and value area with the day before, and watch whether price accepts a new area or runs back. The HD version suits a close look at one day, because the rows are thin enough to show a small shelf of volume that 24 coarse rows would blur into one bar.
Zoom in on the last two days and the row height shrinks with you. Two bars that looked like one fat bar at a wide view may turn out to be separate peaks, which can mean price spent time at two different prices rather than one.
When it misleads
Because the row height follows the zoom, the same day can show a slightly different POC at different zoom levels: a thin-row POC can sit a few ticks from a coarse-row POC. Do not treat one reading as the single true level. Very fine rows on a quiet day also hold little volume each, so the bars get spiky. Days are cut at midnight UTC, and volume is spread evenly across each small candle’s range, so the detail is approximate.
Questions and answers
What does HD mean on the session volume profile?
The row height is picked from your zoom, about three pixels of the price scale per row, instead of a fixed row count. That is why it has no row setting.
Why does the point of control move when I zoom?
Rows of a different height group the volume differently, so the busiest row can shift by a few ticks. The bigger shape of the profile stays the same.
How do I see which side dominated each row?
Switch the bar style to Delta. Each bar then shows up minus down volume, coloured by the winning side.
Why does this page use bitcoin?
Spot gold carries no exchange volume, so there is nothing to add up. Bitcoin from Hyperliquid has real volume. For gold, the Session TPO page counts time at each price.
