Volume
Ease of Movement (EOM) on Bitcoin
Ease of Movement compares how far the middle of the candle moved with how much volume it took. A high positive reading means price rose on light volume. A low or negative one means it fell, or needed a lot of volume to move at all.
Each candle’s move is divided by its volume, and spot gold candles carry none, so the chart uses Hyperliquid bitcoin.

What it shows
An oscillating line below the bitcoin candles, crossing back and forth over zero. Its scale comes from the scaling divisor, so the shape carries the meaning and the printed number does not.
How Pravex works it out
- Find the middle of each candle: (high + low) ÷ 2.
- Take the move of that middle from the previous candle: middle now − middle before.
- Per candle value = divisor × move × (high − low) ÷ volume. A candle with zero volume has no value.
- Average the per-candle values with a simple average over the last 14 candles. That is the line.
- Made-up figures, to follow the units: a middle that rose by 2, a range of 4 and a volume of 100000, with the default divisor of 10000, gives 10000 × 2 × 4 ÷ 100000 = 0.8.
Settings
| Setting | Default | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 14 | The span of the simple average laid over the per-candle values. A shorter length makes the line twitchy; a longer one smooths out single candles. |
| Scaling divisor | 10000 | Scales the numbers up or down so they fit the pane. It does not change the shape of the line. |
How traders read it
Above zero, price has been rising with little volume holding it back. Below zero, it has been falling the same way. A line that stays near zero means price needs a lot of volume for each step.
Use zero as a filter. Bitcoin rising while EOM holds above zero is climbing without much volume in the way; the same rise with EOM sliding toward zero is paying more volume for each step.
No guide levels come with it, so read the shape: a rising line that turns flat says the moves are starting to cost more volume.
When it misleads
Because volume sits in the divisor, a single huge-volume candle pulls its value toward zero and a thin-volume candle makes a spike, so the raw line is noisy before the average. The 14-candle average hides this in calm stretches but not around news. On bitcoin, a stretch of thin volume makes small moves look easy. The line also depends on the exchange feed: this page uses Hyperliquid candles, and another venue will show different volume. Spot gold has no volume, so this indicator has no gold version.
Questions and answers
What does a positive Ease of Movement mean?
The middle of the candle rose, and it did so with relatively little volume for the size of the range.
Why is the number so small or so large?
The scaling divisor multiplies every value. Raising it from 10000 to 100000 makes the numbers ten times bigger and leaves the line’s shape exactly the same.
What does a reading near zero mean?
Either price barely moved, or it needed a lot of volume to move. The line does not tell the two apart.
Why is there no gold version of this page?
The math divides by volume, and spot gold candles carry none. The bitcoin chart has real volume.
