Volume
Up/Down Volume Indicator on Bitcoin
Up/Down Volume splits every candle’s volume into a buying part and a selling part. Buying goes up as green columns, selling goes down as red columns, and a dot marks the difference between them.
Spot gold carries no exchange volume, and Hyperliquid candles carry volume but no taker split, so this page draws bitcoin from Hyperliquid and counts each whole candle as buying or selling by its direction.

What it shows
In a pane under the price: green columns rising from zero for up volume, red columns hanging below zero for down volume, and a dot on each candle for the delta (up minus down). The dot is green when buying was bigger and red when selling was bigger or the two were equal.
How Pravex works it out
- Each candle’s volume is split into an up part and a down part.
- Where the data feed carries taker volume, the split is by the side that took the trade: taker buys count as up, taker sells as down. Up is the taker-buy volume, kept between zero and the candle’s total volume, and down is the rest.
- Where the feed has no taker split, the whole candle goes to one side by its direction: a close above the open is all up, a close below the open is all down. A candle that closes at its open follows the move from the previous close, and if that is level too it keeps the side of the candle before it.
- The up column is drawn at +up, the down column at −down (so it hangs below zero), and the dot is at up − down.
Settings
| Setting | Default | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|
| Read a lower timeframe | off | Shown greyed out and not used. Each candle’s own volume is already split, so Pravex does not scan a lower timeframe and turning it on would change nothing. |
| Timeframe | 1 minute | Shown greyed out for the same reason: no lower timeframe is scanned, so the choice has no effect. |
How traders read it
The two columns show how much volume each side brought, and the dot shows the winner. Traders look for candles where one column is far bigger than the other, and for a run of dots of the same colour, which suggests that one side is in control. A price move that comes with a long column on the same side is generally trusted more than one that comes with a short column.
Made-up example: a candle has 60 up and 40 down. The green column reaches 60, the red column hangs to −40, and the dot sits at +20 in green. Next candle is 45 up and 55 down: the dot flips to −10 and turns red. The size of the dot matters, and so does the swing.
When it misleads
On this page the data is bitcoin from Hyperliquid, whose candles carry volume but no taker split. Each whole candle is counted as buying or as selling by its direction, so one of the two columns is always zero and the dot equals the column. That is a coarse picture: a candle that closed up but had heavy selling inside it shows as all buying. With a feed that carries taker data the columns are both filled and more detailed. A delta of exactly zero is drawn red.
Questions and answers
What do the columns and the dot mean?
The green column is the buying part of the candle’s volume, the red column hangs under zero for the selling part, and the dot is the difference between them.
How is Up/Down Volume different from the normal Volume bars?
Normal volume shows one bar for the total. Up/Down Volume splits that total into two sides so you can see which one dominated.
Why is only one column filled on each candle here?
This page uses Hyperliquid data, which has no taker split. Pravex then puts the whole candle on one side by its direction. With taker data both columns can be filled at once.
Where does the volume come from on this page?
From bitcoin on Hyperliquid, because spot gold carries no exchange volume. Pravex splits each candle by its direction here, since that feed has no taker split.
